Anxiety

Do you find it difficult to be fully present and focused, because your thoughts are racing and your mind is busy worrying?

The worry just keeps coming and you feel like you can’t catch a break.

Oh, how amazing and interesting our brains are!

Anxiety is essentially fear and worry. It is a normal part of life. Our brains are wired to look out for danger - it’s what helps us and our ancestors survive potential threats. A low level of anxiety is actually beneficial as it helps us stay aware and alert. But too much anxiety can leave us in a constant state of fear and worry, which no longer serves to protect us. We end up spending a lot of mental and emotional energy around something that may never happen. Sometimes we need help rewiring our brains.

Let’s help you slow down, take a breath, and refocus.

People usually seek therapy for anxiety once anxiety interferes too much with their school, work, and relationships. Anxiety can can be debilitating. They’ve had enough and want to understand why they’re feeling this way and what they can do to “get rid of it”.

The thing about anxiety is that it may never fully go away; it is common to experience anxiety for a long time. So the work in therapy is not to remove all sources of anxiety – because that would be impossible – but to help you find ways to live with it, rather than against it.

My work focuses on helping you find concrete ways to manage your anxiety so that it doesn’t feel so heavy and overwhelming. Let’s see what you already know about your anxiety – when do you feel it, what does it feel like – and work together to learn more about it.

I use cognitive behavioral therapy to see how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are related, and how they may contribute to anxiety. I also use mindfulness-based approaches to help you connect with your breath and body in order to refocus on the present moment, rather than the worry.

Together, we will help you regain some control. Let’s help you live more in the present moment and less in the world of worry and fear.
